CARE started its operations in Bangladesh (previously East Pakistan) in 1949. CARE Bangladesh amplifies the voices of the poor and marginalized in ways which influence public opinion, development practice, and policy at all levels - drawing on grassroots experience and relationships with civil society, government, and the private sector.
CARE Bangladesh targets three of the poorest and most vulnerable groups in Bangladesh in order to achieve sustainable social, economic and political impacts on their lives: women and girls, the rural extreme-poor, and marginalized urban populations. In all of these groups, we work with communities to build resilience and reduce the risks posed by natural disasters and environmental change.
Our holistic approach is reflected in the breadth of our programming: across Bangladesh, we implement projects covering livelihoods and income generation; health, hygiene and sanitation; nutrition; sexual and reproductive health; governance, transparency and accountability; women's empowerment and ending gender-based violence; education; labor rights; market linkages and private sector engagement; disaster risk reduction and resilience; and emergency response.
