In ancient Yoruba folktales, there is a particular wonder around “Ado Ato,” or containers of magical spells used to transform the world. At Ado Ato Pictures, we use the magic of cutting-edge technology to create stories that bend our current reality and imagine a new future —through film, animation, TV, and immersive technologies.
We are an Emmy award-winning Black Latinx female-led studio that brings together expertise in animation, documentary, film, and tech to write stories you can touch and build worlds that surround you. Our tech-forward approach to storytelling creates immersive artistic experiences that inspire that ancient sense of wonder.
We’ve partnered with Netflix, PBS Frontline, and the Sundance Institute and exhibited at top film festivals and museums like the Tribeca Film Festival, Annecy, the MoMA, the DuSable Museum of African American History, the National Gallery of Indonesia, and the Amsterdam Museum. Outlets such as Vogue, Forbes, and The Guardian have called us leaders in the entertainment field.
Ado Ato Pictures is led by interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and technologist Tamara Shogaolu. She is the first Black Latinx woman to lead a major studio focused on animation and technology. Shogaolu recently won the 2022 SXSW Innovation Award for Visual Media, the Best Digital Storytelling Award at IDFA 2021, and has been nominated for a Gouden Kalf Award, the top film prize in the Netherlands.
