As our ageing and increasingly unreliable coal-fired power stations retire and are replaced by renewables, our energy grid needs to change to carry power from new renewable energy sources across the state to Victorian homes and businesses. VicGrid is working to make sure this change delivers the safe, reliable and affordable power that Victoria needs for the future and that host communities have a say and can share in the benefits of the energy transition.
Some of our responsibilities include:
• Coordinating the planning and development of Renewable Energy Zones (REZs). These are areas in our state with the greatest potential for renewable energy.
• Investing $480 million in projects to strengthen and modernise Victoria’s energy grid.
• Changing the way we plan and develop electricity transmission infrastructure in Victoria to ensure it benefits all Victorians through the Victorian Transmission Investment Framework.
• Coordinating the delivery of the transmission required to connect new offshore wind resources to the grid.
• Working with the Australian Energy Market Operator to deliver major infrastructure upgrades.
• Providing information to communities.
