Society for Student Mess Services (SSMS) is a non-profit organisation registered under Rajasthan Society Registration Act 1958 (Reg. No 32/JHU/2012-13) to serve good quality and hygienic food to the 4000 students of BITS Pilani and to ensure the social and economic security of its 160 workers. It has three subsidiary units with combined revenue of INR 16 crores and an employee count of 160.
Functions of SSMS:-
- Overlooks various aspects of managing the food supply chain on the campus like finances, operations and HR and also sets policies for the benefit of the workers like pay appraisals, education for children and other perks.
- Periodic activities for the welfare of the workers like health check-up camps, farewell mess grubs and employee of the month award ceremonies.
- Remuneration, recruitment, decruitment and performance management.
- Procurement and sale of inventory, the supply of raw materials, negotiations and deliberations for tenders with food service providers, organisation of special food events, quality control, inventory allocation and budgeting for the entire year.
