The Ministry of the Environment is responsible for preparing matters to be submitted for consideration by the Government and Parliament, such as matters concerning communities, the built environment, housing, climate change, biodiversity, sustainable use of natural resources, and environmental protection.
The vision of the Ministry of the Environment:

• and an environment promoting wellbeing.
The Ministry is led by the Minister of Climate and the Environment.
The ministry employs some 250 people and matters are prepared within its departments and units:
• Department of the Natural Environment
• Department of the Built Environment
• Climate and Environmental Protection Department
• Ministerial Governance and International Affairs Department
• Communications.
Ministry's administrative sector includes the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland (ARA).
In matters falling within its remit, the ministry directs the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
The ministry also directs and funds the Natural Heritage Services of the state forest administration Metsähallitus.
