Founded in 1992 by Holocaust survivor, Boris Chartan, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) showcases the history of the Holocaust and its lessons through education and community outreach. Its mission focuses on teaching about the dangers of anti-Semitism, intolerance, racism, bullying, and all other manifestations of bigotry. HMTC is a sanctuary for all people, regardless of their faith or ethnicity.
It promotes resistance to prejudice and advocates respect for every human being.
With the rise in hate and antisemitism, HMTC dedicates its mission to provide first class education to create deeper understanding of the horrors of the Holocaust and how its lessons of its origins are understood by students, professionals and the general public.
Visit our Garden: The Children’s Memorial Garden, the only garden of its kind in New York State, was created as a living tribute to the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust, and the countless thousands of other children who were casualties of World War II.
