The artistic vision of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is to create experiences of music for audiences that are breath-taking in their execution and artistic quality. Within this, we are proudly the leading orchestral exponent of the creation, performance, documentation and promotion of Australian music, and in supporting the development of the next generations of Australian artists – our industry succession plan.
Our role is to inspire, uplift and contribute to the quality of life across the widest range of audiences in Tasmania and beyond - and we do this by embracing diversity across all facets of programming, partnerships and collaborations.
Underpinning our artistic vision is a commitment to artistic excellence as the fulcrum for all artistic and developmental decision making.
Our audience exists in two communities: Tasmania, and the rest of the world.
As the TSO, we are Tasmanian's orchestra. Yet, we pride ourselves on a global frame of reference and reputation which is supported by international partnerships, performances, recordings, broadcasts, streaming and digital content.
In addition to the musicians of the TSO, the orchestra is home to the 80-voice TSO Chorus.
The TSO's Chief Conductor and Artistic Director is Eivind Aadland.
