LI-MA celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2023. Founded by a small, specialised and passionate team, LI-MA has developed over more than a decade into an influential platform, centre of expertise and network. All its activities are focused on sustainable access to media art and promoting a critical understanding of media art and technology within new technological and social contexts and realities. LI-MA is the digital repository for media art in the Netherlands for both institutions and artists. On an international level, LI-MA is a pioneer and centre of expertise in the fields of conservation, research and distribution of media art.
History
Rooted in pioneering organisations such as MonteVideo and Time Based Arts, LI-MA has since 2013 grown into a leading centre of expertise for the management, preservation and distribution of media art. LI-MA builds on a rich history of internationally recognised artists and organisations in the Netherlands, a history dating back to the 1970s.
Media art
LI-MA has its own collection spanning five decades and consisting of more than 3,000 artworks and an archive of sixty years of media art in the Netherlands. LI-MA also manages the collections of more than 50 institutions and private collections, including the Rijkscollectie (RCE Amersfoort), Centraal Museum (Utrecht), De Appel, Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam), Bonnefanten (Maastricht), Art Collection Rabobank, BPD and KRC, Groninger Museum, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and private collectors.
