Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL) is a charity with over 200 volunteers that help us improve the lives of your friends, neighbours or family in Harborough District and the wider community of Leicestershire.
A few of the things we do:
• Support over 4,600 unpaid carers throughout Leicestershire. We run a telephone befriending for carers, events and a dedicated telephone support system. Find out more on www.supportforcarers.org
• Give young carers time away from their caring responsibilities and a chance to enjoy time and experiences others take for granted.
• Prevent isolated older people from living disconnected lives - loneliness is a killer - 1 in 8 of us describe ourselves as lonely. Our Community Champions project is dedicated to changing the lives of the rurally isolated over 60 and helping them reconnect to their neighbourhoods.
• Help carers and older people become part of the digital world. Not being part of the digital world is a disability in itself.
• We run a Car Scheme volunteer drivers for people without or unable to use public transport mainly to go to hospital appointments and other important activities.
• Our My Mind Matters project covers Harborough District and offers non crisis mental health support to help people get back into the community.
• Recruit and train volunteers - giving people a chance to learn new skills, gain confidence and build new lives
And so much more.
