The Howland Company was established in 2013 by the following ten artists; Paolo Santalucia, Ruth Goodwin, James Graham, Courtney Ch’ng Lancaster, Hallie Seline, Cameron Laurie, Sam Hale, Alex Crowther, Thomas Swayne and Kristen Zaza. Initially this collective met for weekly play readings until garnering a spot in The Toronto Fringe Festival, where their inaugural production '52 Pick-Up' (Dir. Courtney Ch’ng Lancaster & Paolo Santalucia) opened to great critical acclaim and won “Best of The Toronto Fringe Festival”. Since then they have mounted and developed numerous productions including Susanna Fournier’s 'take rimbaud.' (Dir. Ted Witzel), 'The Glass Menagerie' (Dir. Phil McKee), 'Casimir and Caroline' (Dir. Holger Syme) and most recently “Patron’s Pick” of The Toronto Fringe Festival, 'Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons' (Dir. Harveen Sanhdu). Howland was also the 2016 Emerging Company in Residence at Canadian Stage, one of Canada’s largest theatre bodies and they are currently partnered with The Gladstone Hotel to maintain their (now monthly) free play reading group.
