Welcome to the Bayou Tremé Center’s Arts and Education Incubator, an innovative community development project in the historic Tremé neighborhoods of New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Bayou Tremé Center is collectively sponsored by three local non-profit organizations, which have joined together to realize their cross-disciplinary approach to community and economic development with emphasis on education, the arts, and business development.
Our Vision: To refurbish the blighted former St. Rose de Lima Catholic church and schoolhouse property to provide classroom space for developing charter schools, affordable offices/studios for local artists and cultural entrepreneurs, a performance venue and concert space for these artistic entrepreneurs, and business financial and technical assistance for small and minority-owned businesses.
We are currently engaged in a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds to restore and improve the historic buildings and prepare them for a dynamic future of community use. The estimated budget including acquisition, pre-development work and construction costs totals $9.8 million dollars, and we plan on opening in September, 2012!
