For over 25 years, Communities In Schools Greater King County has been striving for equity in educational opportunities empowering students to break through personal challenges so they can define the future they want. Guided by our core values of equity, opportunity and collaboration, we deliver a unique model of Integrated Student Support. Our social service professional team work directly inside K-12 schools to address the identified needs of each school and its individual students who are facing non-academic barriers to success. We provide supports in three different tiers: tier 1: school-wide services; tier 2: targeted programs; tier 3: individualized support.
We focus on those students who have historically been the furthest from educational justice in 38 elementary and secondary schools within the Issaquah, Lake Washington, Renton, Seattle & Tukwila School Districts. Students are referred for CIS services for a variety of reasons including food insecurity, homelessness, living in unsafe environments; experiencing some other form of trauma; lack of a caring adult or disengaged from school.
As an organization rooted in equity, we look ahead to the time when success will no longer be predictable based on one’s race or socioeconomic status.
