We are the Running Snail Racing Team from the University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden. Since our founding in 2004 we compete against other student teams on several international Formula Student events each year.
The Formula Student is the largest designing competition worldwide and demands a lot of discipline, effort and passion from every single participant. The goal of the competition is to enable students to gain knowledge in a project environment to be well equipped for their professional life. With 481 international combustion and 180 electric teams (64 of which from Germany), Formula Student is not only popular with students but favored by companies as well, functioning as a marketing and recruiting platform for future high potentials.
Since our founding in 2004 a dynamically changing group of students builds a new race car each year which we use to compete with other teams on international events. Until 2012 our cars were powered by a combustion engine. In 2013 we engineered and built our first electric race car which was quite successful even in its first year (1st place Czech Republic, 6th Germany, 7th UK). Since then the concept is continuously improved and brought to perfection to proceed our successful participation in the Formula Student.
The undertaking of building a competitive race car obviously is a big challenge for every single member and the team as a whole. Creativity, the ability to work under pressure and in a team is put to the test consistently. Our team members learn and put soft skills like negotiation skills, leadership and organizational qualities to a good use. The knowledge and ideas of every member is needed and applied to our race car.
Participating in our team makes dreams come true: Building your own race car and successfully taking part at international events.
