Products and technologies for a wholesome environment are in the focus of the Center for Environmental Research and Sustainable Technology (UFT), a central research unit (CRU) of the University of Bremen.
In the focal research area "Environmentally Benign Nanomaterials" biologists, chemists and scientists from production engi-neering cooperate in basic research and applied projects. We are doing our research jointly with students, doctoral candidates and post-docs, who were excited by our interdisciplinary approaches in a productive and congenial working atmosphere. Their research is integrated on all levels of our university education, whether bachelor, master's or doctoral studies.
Due to the broad expertise of the working groups of the UFT it is possible to offer internally as well as externally a broad spectrum of methods, from the production and characterization of materials to methods of structure-activity relationships and biological and technological test-systems. The aim of our developments is the protection of resources and the minimization of risks for man and environment.
There is a rapidly increasing demand for environment-relieving products, for more efficient technologies for processing and storing energy, and for the global provisioning of clean drinking water. This growing demand is a major driver for innovation in science and technology. The risks of fast global climate change as well as the increasing shortage of resources reinforce the need for the innovative development of sustainable technologies.
