Formed in June 2018, the Ryerson Propulsion Group is a non-profit, student-run, volunteer-based engineering design team with the mission of educating students in the field of advanced space propulsion. RPG was founded under the assumption that anything is possible for anyone with a great idea and determination. Since its inception, students involved have designed and are ready to begin development of a rocket engine without having any prior knowledge aside from fundamental engineering concepts. The latest project undertaken by the team is a nitrogen gas pressure-fed engine design utilizing liquid ethanol as a fuel and liquid nitrous oxide as an oxidizer. The small engine is capable of producing 350 pounds of thrust and is intended to be a proof of concept. The engine system is equipped with pressure transducers, thermocouples, and flow meters at critical areas of interest to allow the team to better understand the mechanics of a working rocket engine. Currently, the design is complete and purchasing info is prepared. If your organization would like to help our team of young aspiring engineers make this initiative a reality, please visit our website for more information on funding opportunities.
