Sanford Housing Society is a registered charitable organization. The society’s role is to:
- Advocate for housing for people with a mental illness
- Develop innovative, efficient, and cost-effective housing that is responsive to the individual needs of people with a mental illness
- Ensure the best design and quality of construction of its houses
- Manage its housing efficiently and meet the continuous needs of the people it serves
The society partners with a variety of other organizations and individuals who have expertise in providing care. It receives funding from a variety of partners, including federal, provincial, and municipal governments, to meet its goals.
Since its start in 1989, Katherine Sanford Housing Society has developed 16 licensed community residences and 3 supported apartment projects accommodating more than 200 people in typical residential neighbourhoods in Vancouver and Richmond.
