The Research Council was established on 22nd of June 2005, pursuant to the Royal Decree number 54/2005.
It carries tasks related to research and endeavors to promote and support research using all the material and moral means possible.
The Research Council in this capacity shall be the main national authority in this area, acts as a focal point for research and innovation and liaise with various institutions concerned with research.
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has issued the Royal Decree No 30/2010 promulgates The Research Council Law.
Article 1 stipulates that The Research Council will be governed by the law appended to the decree.
Article 2 states that the Chairman of The Research Council shall issue the bylaws and decisions necessary to implement the provisions of the attached law. Till then, the bylaws, guidelines and the decisions in force shall remain valid for areas not covered by the attached law provided that they do not contradict or contravene with the provisions of the law.
Article 3 cancels all that contradicts or contravenes with the provisions of the law.
Article 4: The Decree comes into force from the day following of its publication.
