As the first private sector investment in the Kingdom's petrochemical industry, Saudi Chevron Phillips (SCP) a 50/50 joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) and Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) began operations in December 1999 and produces benzene, cyclohexane and gasoline blend stock. Another 50/50 venture between the two Jubail Chevron Phillips (JCP) began operations in August 2008 and produces styrene, ethylene and propylene. In October 2012, Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo) a 35/65 between CPChem and National Petrochemical Company (Petrochem) began commercial production, SPCo produces polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, 1-hexane, ethylene and propylene.
The plant sites consolidated their operating identities into a single name – S-Chem. The S-Chem logotype is reflective of CPChem's brand identity, and it contains a third boomerang icon which is green to represent the national color of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The three ventures distribute their products through Dubai based trading arms Aromatics Distribution Company (ADCo) and Gulf Polymers Distribution Company (GPDC).
