Adliswil is one of the 171 municipalities in the canton of Zurich. The various municipalities are collected into districts; Adliswil belongs to the district of Horgen. Adliswil is situated in the valley of the Sihl, between the chain of the Albis hills in the west and the Zimmerberg hills in the east. Because of its size and political structure, Adliswil can call itself a city.
