The State Board of Elections is an independent State agency charged with the administration of elections throughout the State of Illinois. Our purpose is to serve as an independent, nonpartisan authority and resource for Illinois election processes, procedures, and information. In this capacity, we work closely with the local election authorities, accept nominating petitions and certificates of nomination, ballot certification, canvass election results, test and approve voting systems for use in Illinois, maintain a centralized voter registration system, and administer the Illinois Campaign Financing Act.
