The Lorain County Sheriff's Office is the lead Law Enforcement Agency in Lorain County. By law the Sheriff's Office provides jail services and maintains a secure court system. Our department also transports thousands of prisoners each year to and from state institutions, holding facilities, courts, and handles extraditions from other states. The 24 hour full service correctional facility houses up to 422 male and female inmates.
The Lorain County Sheriff's Office also provides law enforcement services which patrol 357 square miles for approximately 60,000 resididents. For faster operations, officers have access to 7 strategically placed sub-stations throughout the county which were constructed by the providing Townships. The officers use these stations to write reports, conduct interviews and conduct investigation follow ups. Deputies also provide security, and crowd control for special events such as county fairs and sporting events.
The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the service of legal documents throughout the State including summons and subpoenas. Our department also handles evictions, repossessions, and seizure/sale of property as ordered by the court.
The Sheriff's Office maintains the registry for all sex offenders residing in the county and is required to verify each address and handle neighborhood predator notifications.
Our department also operates a 24 hour dispatch center that provides dispatch services for other agencies such as police, fire departments and volunteer ambulance associations.
