Greater Stockholms Fire Brigade is on call 24 hours a day in our ten member municipalities. The activities include rescue services in the event of a fire or emergency, preventive work to reduce fires and accidents in the community and supervision of, for example, schools and hospitals.
Greater Stockholms Fire Brigade is a municipal association with ten cooperating municipalities. These are: Danderyd, Lidingö, Solna, Stockholm, Sundbyberg, Täby, Vallentuna, Vaxholm, Värmdö and Österåker.
We are responsible for the security of 1.2 million people. Through cooperative agreements, we are also responsible for alarms and management of rescue units from six other rescue services in Uppland, Södermanland, Västmanland and on Gotland.
Our operations in Stockholm include 16 fire stations and nine rescue services. We have staff on standby all time. Preparedness is also available in the form of various special functions, such as rescue diving and a international rapid action force.
Accident prevention work is a large and important part of our work. We work continuously with information and advice to the public, organizations and companies. To reduce the number of fires we work for example in networks with schools, the police and social services. To reduce home fires, we provide information in schools, to property owners, tenant-owner associations and staff in nursing homes. Another step in the prevention activity is that we investigate the accidents that have occurred to see if anything could have been done differently.
Every day we also carry out inspections, ie check and give advice on fire protection in hospitals, schools, service houses, hotels, restaurants, department stores and more. The supervision mainly means that we check that there is a functioning self-inspection of the fire protection in buildings and facilities that are covered by the requirement to conduct systematic fire protection work.
