EcoEquitable is an award-winning nonprofit social enterprise based in Ottawa whose dual purpose of textile waste reduction and women’s empowerment intersect through the art of sewing.
Our flagship charitable program, Sewing for Jobs, welcomes underserved women into an immersive educational experience where they learn how to sew professionally, develop soft skills, and build their network in the community. We also have two social enterprise programs including: our Eco Fabric Boutique, where we receive and redistribute over 10,000 pounds of donated fabric and sewing materials per year; another is our Public Sewing Classes, where we offer sewing and textile related educational opportunities to the general public.
Since 2002, EcoEquitable has been a hub for women from across the world to come together and find community through education and creativity. We engage in our local community to further our mission through a variety of different events and initiatives including our weekend Open Houses, fabric flea markets, and local repair cafés.
We are always looking for ways to partner with values-aligned organizations, businesses, and individuals to advance our mission. Here are a few examples of how we could work together:
*Referrals for alterations, small batch orders, and custom made orders to our Sewing For Jobs graduates.
*Reach out to volunteer with us in any of our programs!
*Collaborating on sustainability initiatives and events, such as Repair Cafes.
*We accept both monetary and in-kind fabric/sewing notions donations which support our Eco Fabric Boutique and our classes.
