AFC’s life-changing and life-saving program enjoys the distinction of being one of the most successful homeless shelters in the State of Washington! Last year over 80% of clients graduated successfully, meaning they left with a permanent, safe place to call home and an income to support their household. Since 2009 the AFC has provided a safe and stable shelter, and intensive supportive services for over 1,250 individuals – with over 60% of those served children. Our program exists to support those that wish to support themselves. Clients in our emergency shelter are served for 90-days. Clients are required to secure employment within 14 days of entry. We support them with through resume building, providing clothing for job interviews and career coaching. We partner with local businesses that agree to call us first when a job opening occurs and we immediately pair a client to that open position. Clients also receive therapy, parenting classes, strict budget monitoring and goal setting.
Clients that need more time and support in order to achieve self-sufficiency can move into our longer-term Family Transformation Center (FTC). Clients are served for up to 24-months. They must have employment and pay 30% of their income as "rent". AFC holds the bulk of this in escrow, and upon successful graduation from the FTC, the client receives that held money back to secure a mortgage, pay for a long-term lease agreement, with any additional held as an emergency fund. In fall of 2019 AFC will complete a 20-apartment affordable housing complex. This building will support families making less than 50% of the area median income ($33,000 or less for a family of four).
Our innovative program exists solely thanks to the generosity and support of our community. If you would like to support this life-saving and life-changing work, visit our webpage at www.AnacortesFamily.org or contact us at info@anacortesfamily.org or by calling 360-293-2993!
