GAR Foundation was established in 1967 by Galen and Ruth Roush as a means of continuing their service to the Akron community for generations to come. Along with his brother Carroll Roush, Galen founded Roadway Express during the Great Depression in 1930. By 1939, Roadway was the largest long-haul trucking company in the United States. The Foundation returns approximately $7.5 million annually to the community in the areas of education; economic, workforce, and community development; arts and culture; and basic needs.
