NHS Norfolk (formerly Norfolk Primary Care Trust) was set up on 1 October 2006 and covers most of the county, excluding the area around Great Yarmouth.
The organisation has three main roles
•Working with organisations, such as local authorities and voluntary organisations, to improve the health of local people
•Commissioning health services, which means buying the right healthcare services for local patients. This ranges from what is provided by GPs, dentists, pharmacists and opticians, community and other specialist services to hospital care and mental health care
•Providing a range of community health services, such as health visiting, district nursing, rehabilitation services, palliative care, community dental services, foot health and children’s health services
