The Institute for information transmission problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Kharkevich Institute) was founded on the initiative of Professor A.A. Kharkevich (1904-1965), member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. It was designed to solve problems bearing upon the progress of information theory and its applications as well as to develop the fundamentals of the progress of telecommunications in the country. At present, a stable scientific body of highly trained specialists has been formed in the Institute. The Institute is composed of mathematicians, physicists, biologists, engineers and linguists, who are engaged in fundamental research into problems of information transmission, distribution and processing, as well as problems of control in complex dynamical systems.
