Welcome to Deaf First Adult Education, which is part of Oak Lodge School. For over 100 years the school has specialised in working with learners who have communication needs.
At Deaf First, we provide high quality support for deaf adults aged from 16 to 25 years and beyond who are in training and education. Deaf First is able to support deaf students at colleges, universities and training centres. Learners are at the centre of everything we do and we aim to provide high quality support as part of their educational experience.
Deaf First delivers reliable support services to deaf students at a reasonable cost. We have strong links with our partner colleges across London. These include South Thames College, Lambeth College, Saint Francis Xavier Sixth Form College, Croydon College and Westminster Kingsway College. In addition, we support students at a number of universities.
The Deaf First team is comprised of highly qualified and experienced Teachers of the Deaf, Sign Language Interpreters, Communication Support Workers, Electronic and Manual Note-takers, Lip-speakers, British Sign Language Tutors, Vocational Tutors and Counsellors. There is also a team of administrative staff who liaise with the colleges and training centres.
We support students across the range of hearing loss, from mild to profound, through a variety of communication modes (speech, lip-reading, sign language or a combination of these). We support deaf students who are oral as well as those who need sign language. Deaf First are also experienced at working with students who may have complex communication and learning needs.
In addition, we deliver basic skills courses to adults in the community in subjects such as Literacy, Maths, Computing, Life Skills, BSL and Driving Theory.
We also deliver British Sign Language Courses from Levels 1 - 6.
