The Deep Transitions Lab is a global network of investors, innovators and academics who are dedicated to creating multiple systems change. Uniting around one common goal: to be part of the push towards a sustainable and inclusive future.
To tackle the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and inequality, there’s an urgent need to redirect investments towards true and lasting systems change. This is recognised widely, but investors need sound science, tools and practices to guide investments away from system optimisations that only reinforce the current unsustainable systems.
We developed Transformative Investment as an answer to this challenge; designed to provoke action and drive systems change investing. We implement this within the finance sector through the Deep Transitions Lab – a space for experimentation to unlock the full transformative potential of capital and build a community of practice.
Deep Transitions thinking is grounded in academic research. It began as an interdisciplinary project that aimed to understand how the unsustainable systems of our societies emerged and how they can be unmade. We’re primarily based at the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges (The Netherlands) and the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex (UK).
