Venture capital is somewhat a continuation of my advertising agency, as a lot of my work with clients went far beyond just basic SEO & marketing services. Many clients considered me as their business development expert because my experience with 100's of companies has included everything from registering companies, setting up offshore bank accounts, filing for trademarks, domain legal issues and even hiring and the subsequent training of staff. Whereas in the past, I didn't venture into it by directly funding the projects, yet my “consultant” role was so critical to their success I should have been more then a consultant.
It's great now working with companies not only to build on what they already have, but to help them fund projects, setup and sometimes even manage sustainable long-term growth plans. I do enjoy being a VC and I love the marketing side aspect that I bring to the projects. This is especially great as many venture capitalists simply bring money to the table; but what I bring is so much more valuable, as money is easy to find, talent and a first hand business acumen that is willing to be shared is in a lot of ways priceless.
