Lambda Tau Omega Sorority, Inc. is a multicultural sorority founded in 1988 at Montclair State College, now Montclair State University, in Montclair, New Jersey. The sorority was founded by sixteen women who felt the need for a multicultural sorority at Montclair State College. Dissatisfied with the options of Greek organizations available at their school, they created Lambda Tau Omega.
The purpose of Lambda Tau Omega shall be to foster and preserve the spirit of sisterhood while promoting high standards of achievement, women empowerment and independence, multiculturalism and dedication to noble service with primary focus on the welfare of children.
Lambda Tau Omega's philanthropy is the welfare of children, but the sorority participates in many types of community service activities. Some of their major works of service include the Blue Ribbon Campaign, a child abuse awareness campaign which takes place every April, and their AIDS Awareness campaign every December.
