Commissioned since January 1998, Jamaica Private Power Company (JPPC) is an Independent Power Provider (IPP) located within the community of Rockfort, Kingston.
JPPC; which has a generating capacity of 60MW, utilizes slow-speed Diesel Engines and Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) to produce electricity for sale to the grid. The plant includes a heat recovery system which converts waste energy into steam that runs a Steam Turbine. This creates a highly efficient system with the maximum amount of energy converted into electrical energy.
Leaders in independent power generation Jamaica Energy Partners now manages JPPC, which was recently acquired by InterEnergy who also owns the Doctor Bird Power Plant (Doctor Bird I and II) residing in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, and the West Kingston Power Station located on Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston.
The operational design of Jamaica Private Power Company, allows it to produce and sell electricity to the grid at one of the most cost-effective and affordable rates in Jamaica.
Over the past 20 years, the company’s success attributes to its promotion of operational efficiency, safety and the hard work and dedication of its employees. JPPC also contributes to the community in which it resides through outreach programmes and social intervention. This business structure positions JPPC as an essential player in the market and appropriate incorporation to the InterEnergy group.
As a result of the acquisition of Jamaica Private Power Company, Jamaica Energy Partners now manages a total capacity of 250 MW in Jamaica, making the company the major independent power suppliers of electricity in Jamaica. In fact, among the three facilities, JEP, JPPC and WKPP, supply approximately 40% of the energy requirements of the national grid.
