National Beta is the largest independent, non-profit,
educational youth organization in America. We’re dedicated
to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and
nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills, and
encouraging service to others.
As a student-focused organization, we provide a variety
of opportunities and experiences that positively impact
our members, their schools, and communities across the
nation and around the world. Since launching in 1934, we
have served over 7 million students in grades 4-12 along with
countless teachers, parents, and administrators. Currently
we are serving nearly 500,000 students across our
divisions which include Elementary Beta (grades 4-5), Junior Beta (grades 6-8) and Senior Beta (grades 9-12).
Beta’s mission originated with Dr. John W. Harris, a professor at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who founded the organization in 1934. Over 80 years have passed, but his vision and Beta’s mission has remained the same.
