Massey Shaw was built in 1935 as a fireboat for the River Thames. In 1940 she went to Dunkirk and rescued 500 troops off the beaches and returned with a further 110. She fought in the Blitz and helped form the NHS in 1947 via a secret meeting on board. Decommissioned in 1971. The societies aim is to preserve Massey Shaw and use it to promote London maritime heritage and educate people in the history of this unique vessel. Completely run and organised by volunteers, these are the lifeblood of the society and we are constantly looking for keen individuals or groups to help support the on going work undertaken by the society.
