Established in 1919, the International Institute of Metro Detroit (IIMD) is a pioneering non-profit organization based in Detroit. Dedicated to transforming the lives of low-income immigrants, refugees, and residents of Metro Detroit, IIMD employs innovative solutions to advance economic mobility.
Our mission is supported by six core services:
Adult Education/Workforce Development
Immigration Services
Financial Coaching
Case Management and Income Supports Coaching
Community Development
Entrepreneurial Training
Originally inspired by the vision of Edith Terry Bremer, a social worker involved with the Women’s Trade Union League and the Settlement Movement, IIMD began as a movement advocating that immigrants are best served by immigrants. This founding principle continues to guide us today, alongside our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Join us in making a lasting impact on the Detroit community and beyond.
