Our History
The Greensboro Jaycees Chapter was officially chartered on October 24, 1936, when a group of young men came together to bring a new Ford Motor Company plant to Greensboro. Their efforts were unsuccessful, but they decided to form an organization with a sincere interest in working toward improving life and advancing commerce in Greensboro. Later, this group affiliated with the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce started in St. Louis, Missouri in 1915 as the 'Junior Citizens'. The purpose of the Junior Citizens was to stress "individual development through leadership training and civic involvement." The club changed its name in 1918 to the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was founded as a national organization in 1920.
