To establish a company importing Swiss watches in 1992 in Hungary, one must have a long-term vision. Very few people could afford to consider buying a “Swiss made” quality watch for themselves or their beloved ones that was durable, elegant, and possibly lasted for a lifetime. It was not at all obvious that Swiss made watches would regain the place they deserved in the global watch market. Let’s not forget, when quartz watches from Japan and later from Hong-Kong flooded the market in the eighties, most of the renowned, traditional Swiss brands were hardly surviving, and some were swept away by it, and in the early nineties the Swiss watch industry was only recovering. Looking back on that time it seems perfectly logical that Ungaro Swiss Kft. was founded then, but for us to realize this, we had to see that this period brought economic stability, and later a boom, to Hungary, and the Swiss watch brands fully regained their earlier positions during this period.
