Space2 develops and refines participatory arts practice in order to initiate and build engagement and community resilience.
At the centre of Space2's co creation the 4 Cs’ was firmly placed: developing opportunities for consuming, creating, curating and commissioning arts activity among community participants who would work closely with professional artists and often exhibit or perform alongside them. Key principles at the heart of this practice is that community members should be able to enter into contact with Space2 via any of the four modes of engagement; that each mode is equally valid, with no particular activity or achievement seen as ‘better’ than any other; that participants should have the opportunity to move between these modes over time as their relationship to their own creativity and their community’s cultural life evolves. This leads to community engagement and individual empowerment in some of Leeds' most deprived areas.
