MAPS was founded in 1985, by Dr. Robert Sprague PT, GDMT, PhD, as Cayuga Professional Education Association (CPEA). Since its inception, CPEA has provided a continuing education sequence for clinicians to become familiar with the teachings of Geoffrey Maitland and other researchers and clinicians who have contributed to what is now known as the Maitland-Australian Concept. This concept of assessment and treatment for SPINAL and PERIPHERAL conditions is recognized worldwide as an efficient, safe and gentle way to alleviate pain, restore movement, and maximize function in orthopedic patients. CPEA was recently renamed MAPS to better describe the nature of our seminars. The Maitland-Australian approach is world renowed, and a cornerstone of modern day Evidence-Based Orthopedic Manual Therapy.
