The Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC), founded in 1887, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and officially recognized student government of the University of California, Berkeley. The organization is dedicated to representing the student body to ensure they have a voice in university governance, advocating for students at the local, state and national level, and providing funding for a variety of students services, chartered programs and clubs on campus.
The ASUC is represented by five executive officers: the President, who represents the organization, the Executive Vice President, the External Affairs Vice President, the Academic Affairs Vice President, and the Student Advocate. In addition, five Chief Officers direct its internal affairs: the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Legal Officer (CLO), Chief Communications Officer (CCO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Chief Personnel Officer (CPO).
The board of directors is the ASUC Senate, a group of 20 elected students who pass represent the 36,000+ students of the UC Berkeley and advocate for change in their respective communities.
Our alumni have gone on to attain major political positions, including California Lieutenant Governor, California State Assembly and Senate, various City Councils. Others have gone to diverse fields, from consulting to nonprofit work to finance.
