Open Arms Malawi is a non-profit bringing life-saving care and support to vulnerable children in Malawi. Since 2000, we've helped over 1000 orphaned and abandoned babies survive their early years by providing expert loving care in our two Infant Homes in Blantyre and Mangochi. Our aim is to return fit and healthy toddlers back to their extended families, with the support of our Community Outreach team, giving them the chance to achieve their potential within the love and security of a home.
Our Community Outreach team currently support over 300 families in rural Malawi, providing advice, medicines, food and agricultural packs to help promote self sufficiency. We work closely with our communities and have set up nine nursery schools, providing free early years education and a daily nutritious meal to over 600 children.
In Malawi, around one in nine children are orphaned and 835,000 Malawian families are caring for an orphaned child. Over half of the toddlers in Malawi are stunted by malnutrition and one child in sixteen doesn’t make their 5th birthday. 75% of the population are living in poverty. Whilst we can't change everything in Malawi, we can make a difference. We've helped thousands of children and families already and with your help we can help thousands more.
