IDO empowers the next generation of innovators.
IDO is a non-profit educational organization that develops creative competencies by providing three-dimensional design programs through personalized mentorship to High School students from underrepresented communities.
IDO believes the world’s most complex problems require diversity of thought. We want to help realize this potential through outreach to students who otherwise may not be reached due to lack of resources or opportunity. For every project, students are given materials, tools, and mentorship to help them prototype and innovate in three dimensions. They learn practical and creative skills and are encouraged to seek out historical and cultural influences to ensure their innovations reflect their world. Each participant’s work results in a comprehensive portfolio for application to university degree programs and professional careers in the creative fields.
Established in San Francisco, CA in 2003 as a college organization at the San Francisco State University (SFSU), IDO unites high school students with university and professional mentors from the creative fields. In July of 2020 IDO became a California nonprofit corporation and in March 2021 IDO received 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation status. IDO operates locally in San Francisco, CA and influences nationally. All IDO programs are provided at no cost to the schools or students.
