CUMAC is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Paterson, NJ for over 30 years. Our mission is to fight hunger and its root causes through a holistic, trauma-informed approach that provides groceries and basic necessities to families and individuals in need.
1. Our Choice Marketplace and satellite location at Freedom Village for senior living:
The Choice Marketplace provides approximately 5 days of healthy groceries each month to guests through an appointment based system. Guests can choose from fresh produce, frozen meat, and pantry staples.
2. Benefits Enrollment Center:
CUMAC’s BEC provides free help with benefits applications such as SNAP and LIHEAP, to those residing in Passaic County.
3. Regional Food Hub:
The CUMAC warehouse sorts, stores, and distributes food donations to guests and our regional partners. We ultimately provide over 2 millions pounds of food each year.
4. Community Conversations:
CUMAC offers Trauma-Informed conversations to discuss Adverse Childhood Experiences and Building Resilience to non-profits, schools, and community members. Our goal is to create awareness and a common language about ACEs, Resilience and Trauma-Informed Community Building principles and how we can partner with families to provide an environment in which everyone has the resources they need to lead healthy and whole lives.
5. Home Delivery:
Our home delivery program serves around 120 individuals monthly who because of disability or age can not come to our physical locations.
6. Freedom Village Social Programing:
Community Advocates create and implement social programs for seniors living in Paterson to combat social isolation and provide healthy and educational activities.
7. Place of Promise:
Place of Promise is a permanent supportive housing program that serves individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
