University Hospital of Heraklion was founded in 1989 and disposes over 700 active beds.
UHH is the major Hospital in the area of Crete, Greece and as a University Hospital, it shares a long-standing affiliation with University of Crete, School of Medicine and the Technological Educational Institute of Crete school of Health and social warfare and School of applied technology. Some under 50000 people are treated annually in the Hospital's Care Clinics and approximately 170000 use Hospital's Outpatient Department every year.
A wide variety of surgical procedures, including transplantations and the most up-to-date laparoscopic techniques, are performed in its operating rooms.
