In late 2014, a group of legal aid lawyers, trade unionists and community advice organisations came together to declare our aim of starting a community law centre for Greater Manchester. This was to enable the people of Greater Manchester to campaign for change as well as to provide access to free and independent legal advice and representation for people who could not otherwise afford it.
Since 2014, we have grown our services to offer free advice and representation in housing, benefits, employment and public law. We have retained our campaigning focus, with active campaigns for the restoration of legal aid, for housing rights, and for a fairer social security system for all. We want to encourage all those who are in a position of power to change their policy for the better.
Though we have a dedicated staff team, volunteers remain the backbone of both our services and campaigning work, and we couldn't survive without the generous support of our members, patrons, affiliated organisations and individual supporters.
