Our Mission
Common Ground Farm's mission is to serve our community as a model for food justice and education for people of all ages and incomes.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit growing fresh produce for food justice partnerships, farm-based education programs, and our Hudson Valley community on land at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Wappingers Falls, NY. Our farmers and educators are dedicated to ensuring our programs are accessible to all.
Food Justice
Common Ground Farm donates fresh produce to people in need through local food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency food programs in and around Beacon.
Since 2009, we have partnered with the Green Teen program to run Common Greens, a mobile farmers market bringing reduced priced produce to seniors and low-income families in Beacon. Through the mobile market we work to ensure that healthy sustainable food are available to everyone.
Education
Our family and children's education programs are designed to connect you to the land. In addition to feeding the community, we view local, sustainable agriculture as a source of learning and fun. Our programs are open to all; some need-based scholarships are available. Learn more about our education programs here.
Our programs currently include Summer Camp, Preschool on the Farm, Young Homesteaders, Wilderness Skills and more.
We partner with Hudson Valley Seed and the Beacon City School District to facilitate Beacon's Farm to School initiative. This program includes farmer visits to the classroom, nutrition and food system education, chefs in the classroom, school gardens, school group field trips to Common Ground Farm, and more.
Land Stewardship
We grow our produce following strict organic standards, without the use of chemical inputs. Although we have chosen not be to "certified organic", our farmers are transparent about our natural growing practices and we welcome your questions regarding how your food is grown from seed to harvest.
