The Ministry of National Defense(MND) is a department within the government of Republic of Korea(ROK) which is responsible for establishing national defense readiness and strengthening future-oriented independent national defense capabilities. Moreover, the MND has been developing the ROK-US Alliance and reinforcing diplomatic cooperation in the field of national defense.
There are three affiliated organizations under the MND including the Army, Navy and Air Force and two outside organizations the Military Manpower Administration(MMA) and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA). There are 24 direct reporting units and agencies under the MND, and three subsidiary institutions (Seoul National Memorial Board, Defense Media Agency and the Defense Computing and Information Agency). The Joint Chiefs of Staff headquarters is the supreme military command of the ROK Armed Forces, integrating the Army, Navy and Air Force.
