Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George has been providing proactive mentoring programs to children and youth living in Prince George since 1979. Working together with stakeholders we start something big for local kids such as a healthier and safer community. Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community. The impact is truly overwhelming. Girls who have a Big Sister mentor are four times less likely to bully, fight, lie or express anger and two and a half times more likely to be confident in their ability to be successful at school than girls without a mentor. Boys who have a Big Brother mentor are three times less likely to suffer peer pressure related anxiety, such as worrying about what other children think or say about them; two times more likely to believe that school is fun and that doing well academically is important and two times less likely to develop negative conducts like bullying, fighting, lying, cheating, losing their temper or expressing anger than boys without a mentor.
