East Peoria is in Tazewell County and has a population of 23,402 residents (2010 census). The city is home to an award-winning athletic complex hosting national softball tournaments, one of the largest nighttime holiday festivals in the Midwest, a regional community college, fine hotels and dining, excellent city services and a healthy business climate. The city’s scenic hills and bluffs offer outstanding sunset views.
The City of East Peoria government includes the departments of Accounts and Finance, Police, Fire, Public Works, Planning and Community Development, and Tourism and Special Events. There are approximately 180 employees, full-time and part-time.
Scenic bluffs on our western boundary overlook the Illinois River, providing a marvelous view of the Central Illinois skyline, particularly at sunset and in the evening. EastPort Marina and several riverfront parks provide Illinois River access to boaters, fishermen and hikers. Also in East Peoria is the Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino and Bass Pro Shops, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
EastSide Centre, a nationally known premier sports facility, hosts regional, state and national tournaments in softball, baseball and soccer.
East Peoria’s business community offers a variety of shops and restaurants with something for almost every taste. The city also has an excellent park district and is home to the nationally acclaimed Illinois Central College.
The East Peoria Festival of Lights, a month-long nighttime holiday event each December, has been an annual highlight for going on for over three decades. The festival features massive lighted displays and entertainment throughout town.
