What does ILAMA do?
ILAMA plays a significant part in the international safety scene. By presenting views and technical papers, ILAMA ensures that bodies such as the European Commission and the International Maritime Organisation take into account its members’ concerns.
ILAMA monitors standards of safety equipment to ensure that the intentions of the legislative bodies are maintained in practice and that all certified products, regardless of origin, are uniformly compliant with appropriate standards. It is only by continuous vigilance that this vital safety issue can be addressed.

How does ILAMA do this?
ILAMA holds Observer and Consultative status at IMO, where it is able to comment on forthcoming legislation and present technical papers on topics of concern.
ILAMA is also involved in the process of formulating European regulations; by virtue of its relationship with the European Commission, Marine Directorate, it can influence European policy and regulations.
